Many years ago in beauty college, our cosmetology instructor told us that any more than a quarter's worth of shampoo was too much! Also-rinsing the hair in cold water betters releases soap residue from the hair follicle, and makes the strands very shiny. With pump soaps, in our home, one squirt is all that you need to get the job done- as long as you are dampening the hands under running water first.

I love reading about how to save money. Especially when it comes to redecorating. I love having a beautiful and comfortable home. It makes me happy to spend time in a home that feels happy too. I love thrift stores and joined clubs like Freecycle where you can give stuff away and get free stuff too. It's a great and cheap way to declutter and redecorate at the same time. Happy Savings Everyone.

I actually had a clothes washer repairman tell me one time that not only do you not need to use as much laundry detergent as the manufacturer suggests, but it can be better for your washer to cut back. He said the excess detergent doesn't completely get rinsed and can gum up the works eventually for your machine. He ran some water my empty washer, and sure enough, suds bubbled up just from the residue in the tub! Needless to say, I started using less than the recommended amount of detergent, and my clothes have gotten just as clean!

Powdered milk = awful taste. End of that one. I don't care how frugal it is if it isn't also tasty. I'm on board with everything else.

Oddly enough, I have found a few instances where the store brand was more expensive than the name brand, even when no sales were featured!

I was at Target and noticed that when purchasing medicinal items, such as pain relievers, look at the different "brands" of the "store brand" the Store brand of Advil, Motrin, etc. can have a different price even if they are both ibuprofen! I noticed one store brand had a nicer bottle with an orange top, while the other was just a regular, less attractive bottle- with a significant price difference!

Additionally, at the same store, I noticed that both markers and crayons were cheaper if you got the bigger pack...literally! The 24 pack of crayons was 25 cents, while the 8 pack (not a different size/product, just quantity) was 77 cents! Odd things like that seem to be popping up for me frequently!

the price of dry milk has gone up. I usually wait until the regular gallon of milk is half gone and then I mix it with the powered milk. You cannot taste the difference and it makes both your regular milk and powered milk go further.

I grew up on a well and septic system so the flush only when necessary thing is just an old habit in my house. The paper in the basket too!

I haven't tried the cleaners yet...not sure what I'm waiting for.

I just put my bread in the freezer and when I'm ready to use it I either take out 6 or so slices and put in a ziploc bag or just put the whole loaf in the frig to thaw. I keep it in the frig till it's gone. I've never had a problem doing it this way. It works for me!!

In the letter on "stain removal", did the writer mean to say "baking soda" instead of baking powder? I've never heard of using baking powder for stain removal.

I love the drawer carts. I have one without wheels sitting under the end of my sewing table (which is a cheap but sturdy folding table). I have another one with my crochet/knitting supplies. It still has the wheels and I can keep it beside my rocker or wheel it out of the way when not in use. I've found that putting the yarn I am working with in a lower drawer and almost closing it is a nice way of keeping the yarn contained.
