I love shopping at second hand stores! It doesn't bother me in the least that someone else once wore the item.

I love your ideas, especially the one about making sure you have extra cash on hand just in case you come across a really good bargain.

Great idea to keep a notebook with sizes and preferences of family and friends. I love to shop the thrift stores and can make an afternoon of shopping for bargains in them. The first place I head is the book section and then I make my way to the craft sections. I am always on the lookout for a great buy in the clothing section too. I find that in the plus size clothing, most are are pretty worn or they are outdated, I have a hard time finding clothing but I still enjoy the search. :)

Very interesting article. Good points about impulse buying. We have a local thrift-type store where everything is a dollar. They get buy outs from stores going out of business and such. Many times I have purchase items just because they were only a dollar and then I didn't need or use them. I have stopped this bad habit. Another good point...being selective. My boss bought a pair of jeans for her grandson from a consignment shop near us. She was angry to find that the zipper didn't work. She never checked it. And of course they do not take returns. I told her she should have looked and someone else probably wouldn't have minded buying them if they were seamstresses and could replace the zipper. She won't even go back in the store because of this one episode, which was really her own fault.
